Dehradun, May 10 (UNI) With remix culture entering the realm of Uttarakhand, Uttarakhandis all over India would be able to enjoy old Garhwali melodies of fourties and fifties once again with the release of first remix audio cassette of its kind here today.

The cassette ''Tu Holi Beera'' includes nine remix songs sung by the present folk icon of Uttarakhand Narendra Singh Negi, originally sung by yesteryears folk icon Jeet Singh Negi.

Narendra Singh who himself is the producer said the aim of producing the cassette was an endeavor to preserve the forgotten folk songs of yesteryears and to refresh the old heritage of Uttarakhandi folk songs in the mind of present generation.

He said it was in 1949 that first Garhwali songs of Jeet Singh Negi were recorded in Gramophone followed by other duet songs by Negi and Mohini Sharma. Those songs were aired by Akashvani Kendras at that time.

''Though the new generation have access to modern Garhwali songs, they are unfortunately deprived of melodies of yesteryears due to non-availability of the cassettes,'' he said. He maintained that it was only the beginning of the revival of old songs. Further it would be his endeavor to record forgotten songs sung by other singers also.

The audio cassette was released here at Uttarakhand Press Club by Narendra Singh along with Jeet Singh Negi.

Narendra Singh had earlier taken the state by a storm by singing a sarcastic song ''Nauchhami Naraina'' (Nine faces of Narayan) targetting former Congress chief minister of Uttarakhand Narayan Datt Tiwari and his government.
