GMC Jammu goes on www

Jammu, May 10 (UNI) The Government Medical College and Hospital, the major health service provider in this terror-infested Jammu and Kashmir state, has launched a world wide web (www) site as a platform to expand its reach to the people.

''All the information regarding the GMC Jammu and Associated Hospitals is now a click away for people on www.gmcahjammu.org.

People can browse in for the OPD (Out Patient Department) timetable for specialist consultations. Names and days of the doctors on OPD duty have been put on the web site for the convenience of people,'' Nodal officer Dr Yashpal Sharma told UNI.

Dr Sharma said, the online information would certainly be a great help to the needy people.'' ''By using the web site people can easily learn about the doctors schedule, that is, which doctor would be available in the GMC or its associated hospitals on that particular day,'' he added.

People can also put a scrap in the ''suggestions'' and ''complaints'' box if they observe any thing unsatisfactory. ''We are also looking at the web site as a medium to increase the hospital management and public interaction to improve the quality of services,'' said Dr Sharma, who is also the Medical Superintendent of the Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital (SMGSH), one of the four associated hospitals of the GMC Jammu.

Under a central-sponsored scheme, almost every block of the state has been provided a public computer centre, where they can excess Internet facility. The online information about the GMC Jammu is being seen as a leap to provide convenience to the people seeking medical facility in this hilly region.

About the web site, the nodal officer said, ''We have incorporated almost all the new features like News, Results, Achievements, Alumni Register, Teaching Programmes, Tenders and Conferences/Meet.'' Besides this, the information regarding Blood Banks and FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) have also been provided on the website, he addd.

On the response to the web site, which was formally launched on May 6, Dr Sharma said, ''We are surprised to receive such an encouraging public response. About 10,000 people have visited our website in the first five days after its launch.'' The GMC and associated hospitals at Jammu, which have 1,700 bed capacity, caters to the medical education and services to the needs of the people.

More than 3,500 patients visit various OPDs of the GMC and associated hospitals every day,'' the Medical Superintendent informed.
