Free textbooks before schools re-open: Official

Tiruchirapalli, May 10 (UNI) Government and government-aided schools in the state would distribute free text books to students a week before schools re-open, Tamil Nadu Text Book Corporation Secretary V Ramani today said.

He told newsmen here last night, the corporation had already distributed five crore textbooks of the 6.32 crore textbooks givn to district-level Education Department officials.

The remaining textbooks would be distributed in a couple of weeks.

The main aim of the exercise was to ensure all the students made use of the textbooks from the very first working day.

About 18.5 lakh students in matriculation schools would get their Tamil books free of cost, he said.

The existing stock of 44 lakh books would also be distributed along with the newly printed books and errata booklets distributed along with the old stock of books.
