DJA demands strong action against attackers on Dinakaran
New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) The Delhi Journalists Association today condemned the attack on the offices of the Tamil Daily Dinakaran and Sun TV in Madurai and demanded strong action against the offenders.
''This is, perhaps, for the first time that a newspaper and a TV channel has been so violently targetted, resulting in the death of three innocent persons. That this has been done to protest against the publication of the results of a popularity survey conducted by the paper is simply unthinkable in a democratic society that values freedom of Press,''said DJA president Manohar Singh in a statement.
He said even if the projections of the survey may be considered by some as untrue and wrong but to conduct and publish opinion surveys, was very much a part of the journalistic practice and Press freedom, and the wanton acts of violence and vandalism against it must not be let off lightly.
He said the DJA demanded that stringent action be initiated against all those who are directly or indirectly guilty of this crime against Press freedom.
