New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) The Delhi BJP unit today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over the alleged comments made by her against people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar settled in Delhi.

The Delhi Pradesh BJP Poorvanchal Cell staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in protest against what it described as 'insulting' comments, made by the Chief Minister against the people from UP and Bihar coming to Delhi.

The agitated workers burnt the Chief Minister in effigy and raised slogans against her.

Addressing the demonstrators, the Delhi Pradesh BJP President Harsh Vardhan said, ''perhaps the Chief Minister has not read the Constitution of India. Under Article 19, every citizen of India has the right to travel anywhere, reside anywhere permanently and has the right to earn his livelihood with honour.'' He said the people of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar had contributed immensely in the development of Delhi through their hard labour and intellect.

''If these people would not have come here, Delhi may have remained a small town. Ms Sheila Dikshit should not forget that she is herself a daughter-in-law of Uttar Pradesh,'' he said.

Among others who addressed the gathering were Mr Kirti Azad, Ms Poonam Azad and Pradesh Vice President Neera Shastri.
