Shimla, May 10 (UNI) The thick cloud cover over Shimla town thinned out by evening after remaining overcast since afternoon following the weakening of western disturbance, which is laying over the adjoining state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Local people and tourists were seen roaming on the historic Ridge and the Mall here after the sky cleared out by the evening.

Earlier, Shimla Meteorological Office Director Manmohan Singh had told UNI here that overcast conditions in the town were due to the western disturbance lying over adjoining state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The disturbance that brought widespread light to moderate rains in the state yesterday is, however, likely to bring more rains and hailstorms at isolated places in the next 24 hours, he said.

Overcast conditions were prevailing in the state capital since noon following another bright and sunny morning, while the sun shone brightly in the remaining parts of the state.

Meanwhile, night temperatures across the state rose with Shimla recording an increase of six degrees to stand at 16.6 degrees as compared to 10.6 degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

Similarly, night temperatures at Sundernagar, Nahan and Palampur rose to 16.7 degrees, 23.3 and 20 degrees in comparison to 16.1, 21.2 and 16.5 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday, the met office said.

Minimum temperatures at Kalpa and Patseio, however, remained stationary at 5.4 and zero degrees respectively, while dropping by a few notches at Bhuntar, Solan, Una and Bhang Manali, which recorded minimum temperatures of 12.7, 16, 18 and 9.5 degree Celsius respectively.

Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 23.5 degree Celsius, Sundernagar 35.6, Bhuntar 33.2 and 22.4 degree Celsius, the met office added.
