Central, state intelligence officials interrogate naxals

Nagpur, May 10 (UNI) Senior officials from Central and state intelligence agencies, besides police teams of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, are interrogating the four suspected naxalites, who were arrested here today.

The police nabbed four suspected naxalites, including a divisional secretary wanted in at least four states, from the historic Deekshabhoomi here today. They also recovered arms, ammunition and other material from them.

The four naxalites have been identified as Mahesh alias Murali alias Ashok Satya Reddy (45), Arun Thomas Parreira (35), Dhanendra Shriram Bhurale (35) and Naresh Babulal Bansod (42).

Police officials from the naxal-infested Gadchiroli and Gondia districts in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra were also here to question the suspects, according to a police release here.

Meanwhile, the police here are trying to establish if the four suspects had links with any local people. They are also trying to find if there are any sympathisers in the city, the release said.

All the four, suspected to be actively associated with the Communist Party of India (Maoist), have been remanded to police custody till May 16 by a local court.

According to police, Parreira's residential address in Bandra, Mumbai, is false. His relatives live in an apartment at Bandra, while the suspect himself lives somewhere else. The relatives living in the Bandra apartment did not give much information about him.

The police have found from the suspect an identity card bearing Parreira's photograph, but it was issued in the name of Sanjay Chaudhari. This has further strengthened the suspicion that Parreira was concealing information about himself, the release said.

The police also suspect that certain naxal sympathisers would establish a so-called 'fact finding committee', to be headed by an influential person, to 'establish' that Parreira had no links with the movement, the release added.
