BBC launches two new channels in India

Mumbai, May 10 (UNI) BBC, the premier news channel, has now launched two new entertainment channels for the Indian audience.

Under the BBC Global Channels, the new programmes will be available in India On Line Broadband Pvt Ltd (IOL).

According to Global Channels Asia-Pacific Senior Vice President Christine Leo-McKerrow, BBC is ''thrilled to be extending air channel brand to new audiences''.

Initially, BBC Entertainment will have a host of new serials like thrillers, comedies, and dramas catering to the different tastes of the audience. The serials will be a mix of contemporary and classics like the incarnation of ''Dr Who'' which ran from 1963-1989.

According to BBC, all the programmes will be in English and will have high production quality and superlative acting from the casts.

Veiwers in India, especially toddlers and children under six years, will get to watch UK's no 1 children's show -- the CBeebies.

The acclaimed pre-school series will be telecast from 0600-1800 hours, in both Hindi and English.

The commercial free CBeebies series, consists of live acting and puppetry, with strong emphasis on values, education and fun for children.

The newly launched channels are a part of BBC's East Asia plan to provide entertainment, information and educational programmes to viewers, which are unique and different.
