Attack on Tamil daily; 2 arrested in Tamil Nadu
Madurai, May 9: Two persons were arrested in connection with the ransacking of the Tamil daily office here today in which three persons were killed.
The two arrested youth-'Tiger' Pandi and Batcha- were among the accused named in the FIR registered by the Othakadi police.
The duo were secured by the special teams formed to nab the culprits.
Though the complaint lodged by the newspaper had charged Azhagiri with instigating the attack, the police had not named M K Azhagiri, elder son of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi as an accused.
Meanwhile, the number of preventive detentions in the city had gone up to 82.
Seven others were arrested in connection with the stone pelting at nine state-owned buses, during a sporadic violence carried out allegedly by the DMK functionaries and known loyalists of Azhagiri.
However, except for some stray incidents, the city remained peaceful.
