5 killed in 3 different mishaps in Amravati

Nagpur, May 10 (UNI) Five persons, including two women, were killed, and four others injured in three different mishaps in Amravati district yesterday.

According to the police, three persons, including two women, were killed and two others injured when a tanker collided head-on with their auto-rickshaw near Belora, about 17 kilometres from Amravati last afternoon.

The mishap occurred when the driver of the tanker lost control on the vehicle while trying to overtake a truck and slammed into the auto-rickshaw, police said. The deceased have been identified as Ranjana Sudhakar Manke (36), Asha Ramesh Khadse (30) and Mahendra Dattatreya Khandare (25). Nirmala Mahadeo Gaidhare (50) and Meera Balkrishna Londhe (55) were injured.

Another auto-rickshaw that was following the ill-fated three-wheeler veered off the road and overturned when the driver tried to avoid being hit by the speeding tanker. However, none of the occupants of the second auto-rickshaw was hurt, the police said.

In another mishap, one person was killed and two others injured when two motorcycles collided head-on near village Mardi, about 22 kilometres from the district headquarters, last evening.

According to the police, Balkrishna Gulabrao Gabhane (31) was killed on the spot when his motorcycle slammed into another motorbike. Gabhane's cousin Himmat Pandurang Gabhane, who was riding pillion, and Praveen Darne, the other motorist, were injured.

In the third mishap, one Prakash Bankar (38), a resident of Amravati, was killed when the auto-rickshaw in which he was travelling, was hit by a truck on the outskirts of the city late last evening, the police added.
