Vodafone finishes Hutchison Essar acquisition

London, May 9: Vodafone Group Plc has completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in Hutchison Essar, India's fourth-largest mobile carrier, the British mobile phone company said on Tuesday.

Vodafone said it would pay .9 billion in cash to Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecommunications Ltd. for its majority stake in Hutchison Essar.

''I am delighted that, having secured all the necessary regulatory approvals, we are now able to complete this important transaction and move on to the process of integration,'' Vodafone Chief Executive Arun Sarin said in a statement.
