Unidentified gang attack merchants

Chennai, May 9 (UNI) Unidentified gang attacked two wholesale textile merchants and snatched Rs five lakh from them at Sevenwells area in the city last night.

Police today said the textile merchants Mani and Tyangaraj of Erode, who used to supply textile goods to different retailers in the city, collected Rs five lakh and were proceeding in an auto rickshaw to Central Railway station to catch a train to Erode.

Meanwhile, six persons, wearing helmets, came in three motor cycles and intercepted the autorickshaw.

They attacked the textile merchants with knife and fled with the bag containing the money.

Special teams had been formed to nab the culprits, police added.
