Tripura observes Rabindra Jayanti

Agartala, May 9 (UNI) Tripura today observed the 146th birth anniversary of poet Rabindra Nath Tagore and commemorated his attachment to the state during royal regime.

Both the government and non-government organisations celebrated the day with different cultural programmes while the main event was organised by the state Cultural department at Rabindra Kanan this morning.

Inaugurating a three-day long Rabindra Jayanti celebration at Rabindra Kanan, state's Information, Cultural and Tourism Minister Anil Sarkar said that Tripura was the best holiday resort for Kabiguru and the poet had visited at least seven times here in his lifetime.

''Rabindranath composed a series of songs on different issues of Tripura and wrote a number poems and stories in reference of the state'', Mr Sarkar said adding that the Tripura government has taken initiative to recognise the contribution of Rabindranath towards the state.

Chhandanir, a leading cultural organisation here celebrated Rabindra Jayanti with daylong different cultural programme and works of Rabindranath Tagore. The renowned artists Lili Islam, Satyam Kumar Debnath, Nirjhar Choudhury, Sabrina Aktar Tina, Tania Mannan and Himidri Sekhar Talukdar of Bangladesh and Subir Sen and Gora Sarbadhikri of Kolkata had performed in the programme besides, Tripura artists.
