Tax amnesty for J

Srinagar, May 9 (UNI) As a goodwill gesture, the Jammu and Kashmir government today granted a final opportunity to the traders to liquidate their tax arrears under the amnesty scheme.

The state government had made a commitment on the floor of the assembly to grant an amnesty to trade and industry to enable them to clear their liabilities under the General Sales Tax and enter the portals of VAT regime with a clean slate.

Commissioner Commercial Tax Bashir Ahmed Khwaja said as per the commitment the government had issued a notification, SRO 172 and 173 on May 7, for industry and trade respectively.

With this, the trade and industry could equally avail of the benefits of the amnesty scheme, he added.

Mr Khwaja said the notifications would provide a golden opportunity to trade and industry to voluntarily liquidate their tax arrears.

The traders must heartily come forward to avail of the amnesty scheme which is last and final, he added.
