RVE programme in the NE states
Shillong,May 9 (UNI) The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has adopted a Remote Village Electrification (RVE) programme for provision of mainly SPV home-lighting systems for villages/hamlets which are not covered by grid connectivity under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyut Karan Yojana (RGGVY).
According to a official statement issued here today, about 579 remote villages and hamlets in the North Eastern Region have been covered under the programme till December 2006, of which 262 such villages and hamlets were covered during 2006-07. Projects in another 567 remote villages and hamlets are under implementation.
The REC has given a further list of 1532 remote villages/hamlets in the region for implementation of the programme for which the concerned states have been advised to formulate proposals for the same.
Special attention is being given to the development of the NE states through a separate allocation under various renewable energy programmes, the statement said.
An amount of Rs.38.00 crore has been allocated as 10% of the Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) for North Eastern region during 2006-07.
