NH 44 reopens after nine days
Silchar, May 9 (UNI) The National Highway 44 reopened yesterday after nine days following the repair of the damaged Bailey bridge over Baleswar river at Malidahar in Asom's Cachar district.
Hundreds of loaded trucks and long-distance buses and small vehicles, which had been stranded on both sides of the bridge for more than a week, left for their destinations.
Official sources said the highway, connecting this region with Guwahati, Tripura, Mizoram and Barak Valley area of Asom and parts of Manipur, got reconnected with the rest of the country.
The bridge had a capacity to carry 30 tonnes of loads and carrying loads beyond the permissible limit would cause damage, sources added.
