Mercury touches '43', highest so far this summer

Machilipatnam, May 9 (UNI) Mercury touched 43 degree C, the highest so far in this summer in this Andhra Pradesh port town today.

All streets in the town wore a deserted look as hot winds were blowing since morning and heat wave conditions prevailed.

Several areas were also facing acute drinking water shortage.

Thousands of poultry birds perished due to the heat wave in Krishna district.

Hundreds of people were also visiting hospitals for various ailments in the last few days.
