Maintain high alert on Indo-Sino talks: BJP
Itanagar, May 9 (UNI) The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh has urged the government to remain on high alert in the ongoing Indo-Sino talks while referring to the recent utterances of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Parliament.
In a statement the BJP said the claims on Arunachal by China and soft pedaling by the UPA government have hurt the sentiments of the people of this state. The party said the Leader of the Opposition L K Advani raised the issue at a brief meeting with the Chinese delegation led by its president in New Delhi besides raising the matter in Parliament for two consecutive days.
Urging the government to assess the ground realities and effectively pursue with the Centre considering the infrastructure development being taking place in the international border areas on the Chinese side. The state government cannot rule out gross misutilisation of border area development fund (BADF) and negligence shown towards basic minimum infrastructure build-up on the Indian side of the border, the statement added.
Expressing concern over the increasing concentration of underground elements in different parts of the state, the party pointed out that there was also possibility of some external patronage.
The BJP also urged the state government to play a pro-active role for visualizing the problems and prospects for evolving a sustainable action plan during the eleventh plan in order to uplift the socio-economic condition of the state, the statement added.
