LS adjourned over Gujarat fake encounter issue

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The Gujarat fake encounter issue rocked the Lok Sabha for the third consecutive day today, forcing the adjournment of the House for nearly two hours.

Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the house till 1400 hrs amid noisy scenes.

During the Zero Hour, the members of the Left parties, Congress, Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Janata Dal were on their feet demanding a CBI inquiry into the killings in fake police encounters in Gujarat.

The Chair asked them to resume their seats to allow the House to discuss a call attention motion on the status of the Sethu-Samudram Canal Project in Tamil Nadu and the reported controversy regarding its alignment. Mr Chatterjee promised to give them an opportunity to raise the issue after the call attention.

The Left and others were not in a mood to listen to the advice of the Chair as they continued to create noisy scenes.

A few members of the Samajwadi Party were seen rushing towards the well of the House.

The BJP members were also on their feet shouting at the Left and Treasury Benches for their effort to raise the fake encounter issue in Gujarat, where their government was in power, on the floor of the House.

When the efforts of the Speaker to restore order failed, he announced the adjournment of the House till 1400 hrs.
