Fatehgarh Sahib, May 9: A middle-aged Head Constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence at Khamano police station of this district in Punajb.

Sources said that Avtar Singh (43), a resident of village Moudli Kalan of district Ropar, had gone to his quarters on Monday evening after finishing his duty.

However, when he did not report to work yesterday, a constable Amar Singh went to his residence. On finding the door locked from inside, he peeped from the window and saw Avtar Singh hanging from a ceiling fan in his police uniform.

Amar Singh immediately informed his seniors. SSP Nilabh Kishore and Khamano DSP visited the spot. After post mortem, the body was handed over to the relatives of the deceased.

The SSP said that Khamano police had registered a case under section 174 of CrPC and police was thoroughly investigating the case.

The preliminary inquiry had revealed that Avtar Singh was mentally upset due to some financial crisis.
