HC summons two MCD officials for not obeying order

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) Taking serious note of another executive order, the Delhi High Court today asked two top officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD) to be present in the court on May 16 for violating the judicial directives to seal unauthorised buildings at Rama Road in Central Delhi.

A division bench of Chief Justice M K Sarma and Justice Rekha Sharma asked former Deputy Commissioner of Karol Bagh zone R M Mangla and Additional Commisioner of the zone to be present in the court on the next date of hearing to face contempt charges.

Mangla, who has been since shifted from the post, had written a letter on February 19, 2007 to Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP) not to sent the police force as the sealing drive had been kept in abeyance contrary to the judicial order.

''No such order had been passed staying the sealing at Rama Road area. We are surprised to know how he interpreted our order.'' ''Why appropriate action should not be taken for contempt of court as the order of the court had been violated,'' said the order.

On Wednesday, the High Court had sought an explanation from the city government how it passed an executive order staying a ruling by the court to demolish unauthorised structures in urban villages of the capital.

The bench had asked the Delhi government to file an affidavit explaining the passage of the Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna's April 26 order, staying the demolition of unauthorised structures in the urban villages of the capital.
