Chandigarh, May 9 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to start wings exclusively for the students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the existing 17 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).

The decision would create 3,488 seats for admissions and enable the weaker section of society to become self-reliant after getting job- oriented trainning from these institutes, Haryana Industrial Training and Vocational Education Minister Lachhman Dass Arora said today.

He said special thrust was being given by the state government for providing opportunities of vocational training for this strata of society.

The technical training in these fields would give them ample prospects of employment and self employment to lead a decent life, he added.

Mr Arora said at present two ITIs were being run exclusively for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at Ambala and Pundri.

At these ITIs, the training was provided to the weaker sections of society to promote employment and make them economically self-sufficient.

However, there was a need to accommodate more youth of this section in the Industrial Training and Vocational Education programme, he said.

The State Government had made a provision of Rs 15 crore for this purpose, he added.
