Four arrested for planning diamond heist in Surat

Ahmedabad, May 9 (UNI) Ahmedabad police arrested four people, who were planning to rob a diamond merchant in Surat.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Shashidharan, Vishnubhai Motibhai Rabari (25), resident of Naroda area in Ahmedabad, Mohammed Parvez alias Sunny (30), Mohammed Javed alias Mohammed Alam Sheikh (26), resident of Rakhial area in Ahmedabad and Mainuddin alias Karan (35), resident of Palanpur, were arrested yesterday from Vastral area of the city.

''Following a tip off that these foursome are going to Surat to loot a diamond merchant in Varachha Road area, our officers laid a trap and nabbed the accused,'' Mr Shashidharan told reporters today.

''A Hiro Honda Passion motor cycle worth Rs 30,000, a Motorola phone worth Rs 1,000 and a copper punch, were confiscated from Rabari. A knife and a Nokia cell phone worth Rs 1,100 were recovered from Parvez, a country-made pistol worth Rs 2,000 and three live cartridges worth Rs 300, were recovered from Javed and a knife and Nokia cell phone worth Rs 1,100 were confiscated from Mainuddin,'' said Mr Shashidharan.

The four accused, who were earlier involved in highway robberies named their four accomplices Prakash alias Jadio, Sunil alias Guruji, Firoz Gandhi and Salim Bidu, who were to join them in the loot in Surat. The police has launched a manhunt to nab them. UNI
