Former Manipur CM seeks transperancy in developmental work

Imphal, May 9 (UNI) Former Manipur Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam of NCP today appealed to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to carry out developmental work in a transparent manner.

Participating in a discussion in the Assembly on demands for grants for public works department, transport, excise and planning, Mr Koijam said owing to the "failure" of the Ibobi government to effectively carry out developmental work, dependence on the union government was increasing.

Mr Koijam alleged that earlier all work was done as per the decision of the Works Advisory Committee but now the committee was made ineffective and the ministers and the officials do whatever they want.

''The ministers and the officials themselves have become contractors and many MLAs are involved in taking up contract work without proper work orders,'' he said. Such trend should be discontinued so that equitable development was possible in the state, he observed.

Dr Ng Bijoy of the Manipur People's Party urged the government to revive State Transport Corporation and make it a viable transport agency.

During question hour Backward Classes Minister Md Allaudin Khan informed that no scholarship was awarded to students under economic development programme.

The government had provided pre-matric scholarship to 1.02 lakhs students and post matric scholarship to 43,587 students from 2001 till date, he said.
