Demand to solve drinking water problem in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 9 (UNI) Congress MLA P Janardhana Reddy today urged Andhra Pradesh Government to complete the second phase of work to bring Krishna water to the city and take up the third phase.

Addressing a news conference here, he said people in Hyderabad were suffering a lot due to lack of drinking water and some colonies here were not getting water for days together.

He said the government should complete the second and third phase of works immediately to provide sufficient drinking water to the people and also to IT companies coming up in the city.

Mr Reddy said the city was getting 233 million gallons per day as against the requirement of 400 million gallons and the demand would increase in future in view of the expansion of the city area and coming up industries in and around the city.

He said the expert committee, constituted in 1971 during P V Narasimha Rao's tenure as the Chief Minister, had recommended to bring Krishna water to city in three phases to solve the drinking water problems.

He asked the government to take action against the officials and engineers, who delayed the completion of second phase, and find out the cause behind the delay. He said the proposed seven reservoirs to store the water coming from the second phase have not completed so far.

The Congress leader asked the government to complete the second phase and take up the third phase works immediately as per the experts committee report. The committee had suggested to bring 90 million gallons of waters to the city in each phase.

He said the Centre was ready to provide Rs 800 crore to take up the third phase of works.
