Continental advances non-stop Mumbai-NY service

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) Continental Airlines will launch non-stop service between Mumbai and New York / Newark earlier than originally planned following a positive market response to the proposed flights.

The service will now begin on October 2. The airline will initially operate the service four times a week -- departing Mumbai on Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays -- with the frequency increasing to daily effective October 28.

In its original announcement during March, Continental planned to launch daily service on the route from October 31.

The Mumbai-New York / Newark flights will be operated by Boeing 777-200 aircraft. The airline has operated a Delhi-New York non-stop service since 2005.

Continental is the world's fifth largest airline with more than 3,100 daily departures serving 144 US and 138 international destinations.
