New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) Amid poll surveys predicting emergence of the Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) as the single largest party but short of absolute majority in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress today clearly indicated that it would help Ms Mayawati in forming government in the state.

Asserting that the Congress will be the key to formation of any government in the state, senior party leader and Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal told reporters here that his party was very clear that it will not go with either the Samajwadi Party or the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).

When pointed out that his stand clearly implied that the BSP was the only party that the Congress would support in forming the government, Mr Jaiswal said,'' That would be decided only after the results are out, but what is decided is that we will have no truck obviously either with the SP or the BJP.'' 'Except these two parties, we will support any group that believes in democracy and secularism and was committed to work for the development of the state, and we are sure that a strong group believing in these values will emerge after elections,'' he added.

The Congress statement of its stand comes just two days before the counting of votes in the state where the seven-stage polls staggered over a month were completed on May 7.

The counting will begin on the morning of May 11 and the results are expected by late in the evening.
