CFL for APEPDCL customers
Visakhapatnam, May 9 (UNI) Osram India Pvt Ltd and Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company (APEPDCL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as part of the plan to implement Energy Efficiency Programme which involves distribution of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) free of cost to households in five districts in Andhra Pradesh from next month.
According to APEPDCL spokespersons here, the programme would lead transfer of the highly energy-efficient residential lighting technology.
The company targets households that otherwise cannot afford to buy energy-saving lamps.
The CFLs consume upto 80 per cent less electricity than ordinary light bulbs and incandescent lamps with 15 times more life.
Throughout its lifetime, an Orsram lamp would save around 1,000 KWH of electricity. This project is initiated by Haryana based Osram under its Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) with global partners and would be carried out by approved methodology.
The EPDCL Finance Director A K Ghosh and Osram Divisional Manager C Bhattacharjee were in the city as facilitators for the MOU which was signed by EPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Praveen Prakash and Osram MD, Gagan Mehra.
The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty also participated in the discussions with a view to help the distribution network.
Stakeholders meeting would be held in the third week of this month with all the concerned geared up to for energy saving drive, the spokesman said.
