16 SEZs approved by board

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The board of approval for SEZs this evening granted formal approval to 16 cases involving total land size of about 2,870 hectares in five states of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Orissa, Gujarat and Karnataka.

Prominent among the companies which got approval are Suzlon Infrastructure, DLF, Unitech Hightech Stuctures and Enfield Instructure and Enfield Realtors.

Suzlon got approval for setting up a high-tech engineering products and related services on a 115.73 hectares of land in Vadodara, Gujarat. The company also got the nod for establishing a similar port-based SEZ in 175 hectares of area in Karnataka, the board said in a release this evening.

Delhi-based realtor DLF, which got SEBI approval for an initial public offering (IPO) recently, has got the green signal for setting an IT/ITES SEZ in Orissa on 22 hectares of land.

Of three projects cleared for West Bengal, two will be set up by Enfield. While Enfield Infrastrucutre will set up an IT/ITES SEZ near Rajarhat over an area of 20 hectares, Enfield Realtors will develop a biotech SEZ in Burdwan district in ten hectares of area.

The third SEZ approved for the state is by Unitech Hightech Structures Ltd which will also develop an IT/ITEs SEZ in 24 Parganas.

Four SEZs approved for Tamil Nadu entails land area of over 2,500 hectares. Of these, the board gave its nod to two proposals of New Chennai Township Pvt Ltd for engineering sector with an area of 126.26 hectares and for multi-services with an area of 121.41 hectares.

The board also gave its approval for a multi-product SEZ by Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation in Landgunneri over an area of 1,020 hectares. The Corporation will set up a similar multi-product SEZ at Ennore over an area of 1,214 hectares.

Besides the DLF project, Orissa gets an Aluminium SEZ by Vedanta Alumina, according to the board's release.
