Raipur, May 8 (UNI) Police has claimed to have busted a communication network of the naxalites with the arrest of its courier in the state capital.

Police sources today said Piyush Guha (37), who had claimed to be a resident of Murshidabad in West Bengal, had been detained at the railway station here on Sunday and a ticket for journey to Howrah, naxalite literature and Rs 49,000 in cash had been recovered from him.

On the other hand, Piyush claimed that he was a businessman and made his trip to Chhattisgarh for trade in tendu (bidi) leaves.

Chhattisgarh is the biggest producer of bidi leaves in the country.

Piyush had checked into a city hotel on May 1 and his movements for the past six days were yet to be verified, police said.

Police also claimed to have seized three letters from him, two in English and one in Bangla. These letters were purported to be addressed to naxalite leaders, adding details of naxalite strategy were mentioned in the letters in English, police said.

Detention of the courier comes in the wake of the arrest of a top naxalite leader Gopanna from Raipur district's Gariaband area, about 150 km from here, two days ago.
