Maruti to compete with A-4 segment
Kolkata, May 08 (UNI) Set to take on Honda City and Toyota Corolla, Maruti Udyog Limited has fixed a 3,000 plus sales target per month for its newly launched SX4 Sedan.
" We want to move beyond the compact car segment and so, we are focusing on Sedan. We are to compete with A-4 group of cars, including Honda City, offering similar facilities at a lower price," MUL Chief General Manager, Spare Parts C K Dave said here today.
While launching the new car, Mr Dave said while Honda City had an average monthly sales of 3,000 units, the sales target for SX4 Sedan, an A-3 car, would be to exceed that mark.
In a bid to attract the younger generation, SX4 had been named after the sports untility vehicles(SUV), he said.
Reiterating that sales figure wads not the only determining factor, Mr Dave said, '' We are working on the improvement of quality and for Sedan we have come up with a new 'M' series engine.'' Maruti which exports cars to different markets has at present no plans to do so with its new variant of Sedan. '' We will set up centres in Europe for car production and for non-European countries we will decide later,'' General Manager Marketing Partha Banerjee added.
Stating that Sedan will add to the A-3 car section, which has a market size of three lakh, Mr Banerjee said, '' With booming Indian economy we expect an increase in the demand and with special features like better power, torque, mileage and Euro IV we have definitely improved our quality.''
