Shillong, May 8 (UNI) In a set back to the Congress in the run upto the Meghalaya assembly elections due for early next year, Higher and Technical Education Minister Robert Garnet Lyngdoh today hinted at not contesting the elections.

Mr Lyngdoh, said he was 'disillusioned' over the manner in which politics was being practised in the state.

Talking about his decision, Mr Lyngdoh said the present trend of politics in the state was that of ''disruptive nature'' affecting the state and the people. The voice of the people is a cry in the wilderness and there is no role for the people. The tenet of democracy-for the people, by the people and of the people-is being violated'', Mr Lyngdoh said.

Ruling out complete retirement from politics, he said ''It is not that I am giving up. I am not running away and I will complete this term.

Mr Lyngdoh, a former State home minister, had contested and won the elections twice from Laitumkhrah constituency.
