Land encroachment in Alappuzha district

Alappuzha, May 8 (UNI) Close on the heels of land encroachment in Munnar in Idukki district, instances of illegal takeover of government land are coming to the fore in this district.

According to a revenue department official, as per the ongoing re-survey in the district, around 200 acres of land were illegally taken away by businessmen to cash in on sea and backwater tourism.

A clear picture of the magnitude of the encroachment would come out after the survey was over, the official added.

He said about 90 per cent of the encroachment was on backwater and sea shores.
