2 policemen held for extortion

Lucknow, May 8 (UNI) Six people, including two police personnel were arrested today and charged with extorting money at the Kanpur-Lucknow Highway in the state capital.

Talking to mediapersons, Senior Superintendent of Police Jyoti Narayan said acting on a tip-off, a police team reached the Banthara area and nabbed six people, including two policemen and a homeguard.

Under the garb of checking pollution, the accused used to extort money from people, Mr Narayan added.

The accused have been identified as Shailendra Awasthi, Munesh Kumar, Shishir Kumar Bhadoria, Vijay alias Barua, Anil Kumar and Ram Prasad Mishra.

Both the policemen-- Sailendra and Munesh-- have been suspended.

They had recently completed their training and were stationed at the Banthara police station.
