'Plan on Siachen under discussion with India'
Islamabad, May 7: Pakistan today said it was in discussions with India over a package plan containing a number of proposals to resolve dispute over Siachen glacier.
''The plan includes possibility of indicating current positions as well as positions where troops should be relocated,'' Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told a press briefing in Islamabad.
She said as part of this package, a zone of peace could be established at Siachen, adding that if the two sides succeed in working out an agreement, it will prove to be an important confidence building measure and an important development in context of dispute resolution.
She said resolution of the issue would also help prevent melting of glacier and a natural catastrophe that may grip it in future.
Pakistan and Indian defence officials met in Rawalpindi last month to discuss the 24-year old issue at Siachen but failed to make any headway.
