Higher allocation for MP district plans

Bhopal, May 7(UNI) More than one-third of Madhya Pradesh's plan outlay for 2007-08 has been earmarked for the district plans with a ceiling for each district.

Of the total outlay of Rs 12.100 crore, about 35.26 per cent totalling Rs 4277.93 crore was given for district plans under a formula based on population, area, agriculture land, per hectare value of agricultural production, number of registered industries, employees per lakh population, per capita electricity consumption and literacy rate, official sources said.

The identified district sectors include agriculture and allied activities, rural development, minor and micro irrigation, rural electrification, industry, sericulture, roads, school education, sports and youth welfare, public health, water supply, sanitation, urban development, social justice and women and child development.

On the Planning Commission's directives, the District Collectors held extensive consultations with the local bodies for incorporating schemes before its finalisation at the district planning committee. At state-level, five working groups examined the sector-wise schemes for the state plan.

A total of Rs 184.80 crore had been earmarked for MLA Local Area Development Scheme with the allocation for each legislator being raised from Rs 60 lakh to Rs 80 lakh this year, the sources added.
