TN: Dacoits fired at, chased away

Chennai, May 7: Security guards at a private container manufacturing company opened fire at a ten-member dacoit gang and chased them away at suburban Tiruvotriyur here, late last night.

Police said the gang gained entry into the factory's store room by scaling the rear compund wall and attempted to loot some valuable raw materials.

Three security guards, hailing from Bihar, were on duty at the premises. Noticing the intruders, one of the guards Shoukat Ali opened three rounds of fire in the air. However, the gang attacked the guards with iron scrap, injuring a guard Mohamed Inthaz.

Realising that the situation was going out of hand, Shoukat Ali fired at the gang, in which some of them were injured. But, the gang members managed to flee the spot by jumping over the compound wall.

The injured guard was admitted to the Government Stanley Hospital here, police said.

On a complaint from the factory Manager, police registered a case.
