Chandra Shekhar improving

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Ailing former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar, who is undergoing cancer treatment in a city hospital, is improving, his family said today.

''He is improving and at the moment is in post chemotherapy care,'' said Mr Pankaj Singh, Mr Chandrashekhar's son.

The 80-year-old former prime minister, admitted in Apollo Hospital for over a month, underwent chemotherapy six days ago for multiple myeloma cancer, a cancer of the plasma cell.

Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cell, an important part of the immune system, that produce antibodies to help fight infection and disease.

A team of experts, including New York-based oncologist Sunder Jagnat, is treating the former Prime Minister.
