AIIMS GB issues showcause to Faculty, study Thorat panel report
New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) The AIIMS Governing Body today decided to issue a showcause notice to the AIIMS Faculty Association for ''casting aspertions on it and study the Thorat Committee report about the alleged discriminations against the SC/ST students at AIIMS.
The Governing Body, which met here this evening under the chairmanship of Health Minister and AIIMS President Anbumani Ramadoss, asked AIIMS Director P Venugopal to implement the decisions taken at the earlier Governing Body meeting and submit the Compliance report.
Though Health Secretary Naresh Dayal told reporters that the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, the senior Faculty Members present at the Nirman Bhavan lodged their protest charging that the Health Secretary was working for a ''murderer'' and has ''sold himself.'' Initially, both Mr Venugopal and Mr Dayal had come to brief the media, but once the decision to issue a show-cause notice to the Faculty Association was announced, Mr Venugopal and other faculty members went away in protest.
Mr Dayal said that the Governing Body has decided that all lawyers representing AIIMS at various courts would be decided by the AIIMS President and Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss after consulting the AIIMS Director. The decision is significant in view of the fact that both the Health Ministry and Dr Venugopal have moved the Supreme Court against the High Court order and now Dr Ramadoss would effectively decide who would represent even Dr Venugopal in the court.
It was also decided to circulate the report of the Thorat Committee, which submitted its report about the alleged discrimination against SC/ST students, among the Governing Body members who would study the report and submit their views in the next meeting, Mr Dayal added.
He said that the Governing Body also expressed it gratefulness and thanked Dr Thorat for inquring into ''differential treatment'' against SC/ST students.
