Working in UAE gets tougher for fake degree holders
Dubai, May 6 (UNI) Under new set of policies in the UAE degree verification would become mandatory upon renewing labour cards from June 1.
Labour Minister Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, while making the announcement said the rule would apply to anybody who has not verified his/her degree certificate earlier.
The cost of verifying a degree, to be paid by the employer is 500 Dirhams, the Gulf News reported.
The new rule comes as a third in a series of policies monitoring the authenticity of certificates for job seekers in the country.
The ministry had issued a rule in March 2006 making degree verification mandatory for those applying for work permits.
Following it the same year in June it enforced a lifetime ban on working in the country with false degrees.
Since the implementation of the programme in October 2005 some 567 fake degrees have been discovered out of which 252 fake degree holders have already been deported.
