Superjumbo A380 comes calling on maiden voyage to India

New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) Airbus A380 that can seat up to 850 passengers in a double-decker format today cruised through Indian skies for the first time as part of its worldwide demonstration tour.

The biggest passenger jet ever built landed around 1045 hrs at the IGI Airport here.

''It was a breath-taking sight ... a dream-machine descending from the skies,'' said an official of the GMR Delhi International Airport Ltd. ''To our delight, the A380 made a ceremonial flypast.'' A traditional aviation welcome of water spray was extended to the aircraft before it rolled into a parking bay. Delhi Airport becomes the first in India and among first few Asian airport to host the marvel of an aircraft.

After demonstrations and sorties in the national capital, where compatibility tests are also planned with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the aircraft flies to Mumbai on Tuesday for another set of celebrations.
