Amritsar, May 6 (UNI) The Punjab Government has assured the Airport Authority of India (AAI) that it would provide additional land required for the expansion of the Raja Sansi International airport.

This assurance was given by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to AAI Director Arun Talwar during his visit to the airport here today.

The chief minister directed the local deputy commissioner to work out the modalities to provide 45 acres of land to AAI immediately.

He also assured the AAI that he would soon take up the other relevant issues related to airport expansion with the concerned Ministries of Civil Aviation, Defence, Environment and Forests. He pointed out that the expansion was a prestigious project as is the only international airport in the state.

The expansion would give a major boost to the tourism industry of the Holy City in particular and the state in general. He also pointed out that a large number of Punjabi NRIs prefer to embark at Raja Sansi rather than New Delhi.
