Punjab government to set up Road Safety Council
Moga, May 6: For making highways and roads safer in Punjab, the state government will be establishing a Road Safety Council, IGP, Traffic Hardeep Singh Dhillon stated here today.
Talking to reporters, Mr Dhillon said that the police with cooperation of different NGOs has taken a special initiative for creating awarness through civic awareness camps at district and sub- divisional headquarters to minimise traffic accidents.
Stressing the need of such awareness camps, IGP said that certain NGOs had helped a lot by providing vehicles for lifting injured persons and taking them to hospitals. At present about 65 highway patrolling vehicles fitted with all modern facilities including wireless and first aid kits were on the move, he added.
He said that during the last financial year, about 15,000 injured persons in more than 2,700 road accidents were lifted to hospitals.
