Premier of documentary on Manipur screened

Jamshedpur, May 6 (UNI) 'Manipur Cocktail', a documentary on the life in the North East, directed by Jharkhand's young film maker Projna Biyot Tripathy, was screened today in the documentary session during the 12th Jamshedpur International Film Festival(JIFF).

Ms Tripathy's documentary was one of the main attractions of the package of five short and documentary films 'Our films Their films', focussing on the young film makers of Jharkhand.

The documentary was presented in two parts. The first part 'Women Uninterrupted' shows the socio-economic role and status of Manipuri women in the context of the Ima market, a market run and controlled by women.

The second part 'Men in veil' explores the mystery of some Manipuri rickshaw pullers' life, who live a double life, one while pulling the rickshaw and the other with his family, who are ignorant of thier men's other occupation.

'This dual character refers to the changing indentity of Manipuri men', said Ms Tripathy.

Another documentary 'Kal Aaj Aur Kal' based on the illegal mining of iron ore in Jhakrhand, was also directed by a young journlist-turned-film maker from Jharkhand Probal Mahto. Brij Mohan Pandey's 'We are all Hilters' also depicted the modern urban life and its impact on the young mind.

The Celluloid Chapter, the organiser of the film festival, also conducted a two-day film appreciation course for the school children on May 5 and 6. Students from different schools underwent the course 'Pen to Lens' under the guidance of Shyamal Karmakar, Lecturer, Editing, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute(SRFTI), Kolkata.
