Power scenario eludes ''Sushashan'' promise of Nitish
Patna, May 06 (UNI) Leader of the opposition Rabri Devi today alleged that the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government had failed to keep its promise of improving the power situation in Bihar even after its 17 months of rule.
''People are still reeling under the spell of darkness due to insufficient power,'' the former Chief Minister said and added that improvement of power situation was their main poll plank for providing 'Sushashan' in the state.
''Ensuring timely payments, our government never let the NTPC reduce electricity supply to Bihar,'' she said, but rued that the Nitish government had failed to get adequate power supply from the corporation, which was now demanding advance payments for power supply.
She said power cuts in various parts of Bihar, including the state capital, made life more difficult in the summers. Even after repeated assurances from ''Sushashan'' (Good governance) the peoples' ordeal continued.
She said the rural areas had plunged into 'complete darkness' with practically no electricity at all. The farmers were worst hit since they had to pay the fixed monthly bills for the electricity connection even though they did not get any supply.
The situation in the urban areas was not much better either, she continued, adding that load-shedding had become a common phenomenon.
''But those hovering around corridors of power were enjoying the benefits of electricity in an illegal manner,'' she alleged.
