NGOs threaten road block for 'slow' road works
Aizawl, May 06 (UNI) Various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Lunglei district of south Mizoram have warned of a road blockade unless any positive move is taken by May 11, regarding construction of roads in Lunglei town.
A meeting of the state's largest NGOs, Young Mizo Association, Mizo Hmeichhe (Women) Insuihkhawm Pawl, Mizoram Upa (senior citizens) Pawl, Mizo Zirlai (students) Pawl, Mizo Students Union, Chhimbial Chhantu (saviours of the south) and journalists' association of the Mizoram's southern district yesterday, they resolved to submit a memorandum to the Mizoram chief minister to take immediate action to expedite the ongoing World Bank-funded Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei road construction and blacktopping of Lunglei town roads failing which they will prevent any vehicle from entering Lunglei from May 12.
The NGOs alleged that the RBM-Tantia's perfomance in the World Bank funded road project is ''slow'' and of ''poor standard''.
The NGOs warned that if the road block still failed to bring about positive results, they would resort to more aggressive actions.
