Kumaraswamy challenges Congress on farm loan waiver

Mysore, May 6 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today challenged the Opposition Congress to prevail upon the Union Government to waive farmers' loans with nationalised banks.

Laying the foundation stone for a bridge near K R Nagara in this district, he said the Congress had been critical of the state government's programmes, including farm loan waivers.

''Let them take a delegation to the Union Government and get loan waiver from nationalised banks for the farmers of Karnataka, like my government has done with the cooperative bank loans,'' he said.

Further, the state government had been striving to mobilise resources to balance the burden of the ban on arrack that will come to effect in June, he added.

Earlier, the Chief Minister declared open the four-lane Highway between Belekere and Belur in Hassan at the cost of Rs 39 crore and also laid the foundation stone for bridge across Lakshmanathirtha River near K R Nagara.
