Ilol village dug up for Kausar Bi's remains

Ahmedabad, May 6: A Gujarat CID team, led by Inspector General Geeta Johri, reached Ilol village in Sabarkantha district this afternoon to probe the Kausar Bi murder case.

Sources said the team searched the house of arrested IPS officer D G Vanzara in Ilol at 1330 hrs today. They also demolished a room built upon a well in the village in an attempt to recover the remains of Kausar Bi, suspecting that the remains may have been dumped into the well.

The CID team is using earth movers, and other equipment to dig up the area to trace any remains of Kausar Bi. Local villagers are not cooperating with the team, according to sources. The police is conducting investigations under a tight security net in view of the wrath of the villagers.

So far, the police has not been able to collect any material evidence to prove that Kausar Bi was murdered. Kausar Bi, wife of Sohrabuddin Sheikh who was alegedly killed in a fake encounter, was also supposedly killed by the Gujarat Police on November 28, 2005.

Police have not divulged any details about the progress made in the investigations.

Meanwhile, the state Government has suspended two IPS officers, DIG (border range) D G Vanzara and SP (operations) Rajkumar Pandian arrested in connection with the killing of Soharabbudin Sheikh.

The two officers along with another IPS officer, Dinesh Kumar of Rajasthan Police, were arrested on April 24 in connection with Sohrabuddin fake encounter case. They are, at present, in police custody till May 8.

Sohrabuddin was killed on November 26, 2005 after the Gujarat Police had allegedly picked him and his wife Kausar Bi from Hyderabad on November 22, 2005.

The state Government has already admitted before the Supreme Court that Kausar Bi was killed and her body burnt in Ilol village of Sabarkantha.
