IT professional commits suicide

Mumbai, May 6 (UNI) A 23-year-old IT professional, an alumunus of IIT Kanpur, committed suicide today by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his residence in suburban Goregaon.

Arpan Das, who was working with Citicorp here and living at New MHADA Colony, committed suicide when his two colleagues--Kunal Sharma and Soman Bhattacharya--with whom he was sharing the room had gone out for lunch. On their return at around 1630 hrs, they found him hanging from the ceiling fan, after which they alerted the police, Dindoshi police said.

The exact cause of the suicide is not yet known. The police have, however, ruled out financial problems as the reason behind the suicide. Das was earning a pay package of Rs nine lakh per annum.

However, police suspect that he may have been suffering from depression.
