ICG evacuates Chinese mariner in distress
Port Blair, May 6 (UNI) An Indian Coast Guard (ICG) helicopter has evacuated a Chinese mariner from vessel MV Hua Yun He 410 nm south off Port Blair yesterday, officials said today.
The ship was on its way to Singapore, sources said.
Soon after receiving a message by the Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre here the Coast Guard chopper was pressed into action to airlift Wang Ren Gen, who was suffering from acute abdominal pain.
Meanwhile, the vessel was directed to alter its course to Port Blair for medical evacuation.
Despite adverse weather conditions and without any helipad, the chopper successfully rescued the mariner at mid-sea, Commander Anil Kumar told UNI today.
